Song Of The Day

Raised by his mother in North Carolina, J. Cole's hometown of Fayetteville would provide much of the sights and experiences that would come to shape his sound. Cole fell into rapping at the age of 12 when his cousin from Louisiana spent the summer in Fayetteville, showing him the basics of rhyming. He was instantly hooked. From there he delved deep into the music of hip hop luminaries including Tupac Shakur, Nas and Outkast, taking from them a love for telling stories with an unbridled rigor. Seizing every opportunity to write, at age 15 J. Cole found himself with composition notebooks full of rhymes but no beats of his own to lay them on. Determined to create original songs, he begged his mother for a beat machine so he could produce music solely for himself. She granted his wish and from there, a young Cole spent all his free time creating sounds and songs that would lay the foundation for what his style has evolved to today.

Song Of The Day

With the recent hype over all the new artists that have touched the mainstream scene. We've all lost track of real music at some point. Don't get us wrong all the music is great, but we have to take the time to realize the artists that paved ways to make all this possible. Today's SOTD is from an artist that's been through a lot the past few years, a very familiar face Kanye West and his new single "Power". Hiphop isn't dead it's alive! Enjoy!

Song Of The Day

The song of the day is provided by the group "Earthtone". This is a cover of the song Billionaire by Gym Class Heroes front man Travis McCoy. The Chorus of the original song features vocals by Bruno Mars who is known for his recent work with B.O.B. on the hit single "Nothin On You". We've enjoyed the original song and happened to come across many groups doing covers on youtube. This happened to be the best in our opinion. The main detail that caught us about this cover was that the group used their own rap lyrics as opposed to recycling Travis McCoy's verse and they had a more soulful approach to the concept of the song. We think many would agree this version is better than the original. But We'll let you decide. Enjoy! @NVSJONES

Song Of The Day

So the NeverStale team had a chance to sit down and listen to Drake's "Thank Me Later" album. We will still be supporting him by purchasing copies, when it drops on June 15th. We've been Drake supporters from day one, just putting that out there.

Drake does it all, not many artists have his talent and abilities- able to spit bars and then turn around and make a sick hook to go with his music. Shoutout to Drake and we look forward to hearing a lot more in the near future."The Resistance" is a hit, and we felt him on every word of this.
